When a member of the NO team suffers a tragic loss, the nice thing to do is not to make too much of it, pass over it so to speak. And that’s what we’ll do. I’m asking readers if they’ll kindly refrain from certain things, making quips etc., in the interests of compassion.
Here are some suggestions:
1. One of the most annoying things is to be told “it’s just a game”. It’s certainly not just a game – that result could actually see Sunderland stave off relegation later in the season. It was, therefore, quite a critical game, as well as being all about club pride.
2. It also doesn’t help to say that if every other team except Newcastle beats Sunderland, they might still be relegated.
3. It’s also best if we avoid words such as Joker Park, Stadium of Shite, Gus Poyet, Steven Fletcher, Fabio Borini, Shola Ameobi and Pardew’s tactics.
Best we just forget all about it – sorry to have brought it up at all. Please join with me and don’t mention it, OK? Never mind – here are happier times:
Eeeh man, ahm gannin te the booza.
