Alfa Romeo typo 8C 35 sells at Goodwood Revival for £6 million, the car that was sponsored by Mussolini and driven by Tazio Nuvolari was an attempt to beat the all conquering Mercedes Benz of the time. Nuvolari did manage to beat the Mercedes occasionally with some heroic driving.
The car was of a long and illustrious line featuring the classic Alfa straight eight. Many versions using that engine in it’s various guises can be seen here:
This remains to me the greatest lineage in motor sport, the cars of that period from Alfa probably contained more beautiful cars than any other manufacturer, and includes my all time favorite the typo 8C 2900 in its Mille Miglia form, a race it won twice, but then I’m biased.
