I remember going to one of the first UK truck race meetings at Donington Park back in the 80′s. Most of the trucks were standard road going versions – one Italian driver dropped his loaded trailer in the car park, went racing, and had to continue his journey afterwards with virtually no brakes…
Within few years purpose built trucks could out accelerate a Ford Sierra Cosworth, and then they had to have speed limiters fitted, restricting them to 100mph!
An unhooked up truck today can be a mighty fast vehicle.
