Hazel Mitford, leader of the Harrogate-based St Paul’s United Reform Church troop, had written to a local newspaper along with Brownie representatives pledging to stick to the old Christian oath.
‘Girlguiding has God at its core and anyone who has issue with this is free to start their own organisation,’ they wrote.
Their stand was last week backed by former Bishop of Rochester Michael Nazir-Ali who insisted Girl Guiding was ‘rooted in the Christian faith’ and warned the new oath could split the movement.
It emerged yesterday that 839 complaints had been made by members to Girlguiding UK about its insistence that all troops should introduce the new oath.
End of story you might think. Not so of course:
Yesterday, however, it emerged that the St Paul’s group had agreed to fall into line and accept the new wording after meeting national leaders.
By all that is spineless, why? How? These people in the scout/guide movement are meant to be pillars of society, people who don’t backpeddle and compromise on principle where children are concerned. Seems they’re as spineless as Welby, Williams and the rest of the hierarchy.
Again – why? Who had the power to make these people take leave of their principles? Let’s not be in any doubt here – this has nothing to do with the whys and wherefores of the issue itself – it’s about people of “principle” taking a stand and then backpeddling. It has to be a pretty darned powerful pressure group which could get them to do that:
The climbdown was welcomed by Jem Henderson, 28, an atheist volunteer leader who had accused the Harrogate group of excluding non-believers, saying ‘all I wanted out of it was for the troops to take the secular promise’.
I don’t understand backsliding on basic principles – perhaps someone could explain it although I think most readers have a similar view and are able to stand firm when needed.
And on another matter, what’s an atheist doing in a Christian organization anyway? Why would a Christian be in an atheist organization?
However yesterday its stand was at an end after leaders of the troop met senior figures from Girlguiding UK, which has insisted no exceptions can be made.
The change of heart came after pressure from local volunteer and self-professed atheist Jem Henderson as well as from the National Secular Society.
Hang on – 839 complaints, one woman insisting on atheism overrules them all, trumping a former Bish as well. That’s frankly astounding.
Answer of course is that it is not just some lone woman. It is a powerful bloc involving everyone from the UN to the EU, through to the national leaderships of the west – and this woman is simply their gal in this particular organization. A mouthpiece like Julia Middleton.
And you think this is just Britain? Look at the pic at the top – it’s in other countries too – it’s a push worldwide to leave young people vulnerable.
The forces of evil are always going to do their worst. That’s a given. What is so dismaying is that the very people one would expect to stand firm and show a bit of spine – as they actually did before this woman got to them – backed down.
Heaven help all of us, in a very Niemoeller way – they’re coming for you next.
As an aside, it’s now become apparent the bankrupt nature of protestantism in its upper echelons [the vote on women bishops at least showed over half the rank and file still firm]. Despite all its failings, its corruption, the countries where Christianity still survives are Catholic nations and yet even they are weathering a storm of the corrupting of new generations – Gen Y being the third in the long, slow process.
A one off? I think not – look about you:
This is the culture now, the one Them want and the most susceptible fall first. Then “modern” women who are the very ones, as mothers, who should be embracing the heritage of the nation. The last ones to go are the ageing curmudgeons.
We ignore this at our peril. Secular bigots are every bit as bigoted as any fire and brimstone preacher from the past, worse in fact because there is no redemptive aspect, no hope and succour, no anything in secularism. Nothing to stay their hand. It neither exhorts people to faith, hope nor charity and in fact it removes hope, precisely as was over the gates to hell and by the way, that’s a key aspect of mind control – breaking down and removing hope from the victims.
And the grievous error atheists and secularists make, particularly those good people who in other respects see precisely what the State and the forces of darkness are trying to do, e.g. the EU – the error is in thinking there can be some sort of neutral, value-free panacea in the middle, with people free to make whatever choices they wish.
Guys – there is NO freedom of choice – all is manipulation and narrative. The only difference is that traditionalists choose a narrative which once ensured enough freedom for so long, under the rule of law. Now it’s the rule of lawlessness.
This moral vacuum is what the Watchers need as a precondition for enslaving a now defenceless people. We see it all around us as the State, having done their number on “religion”, lumping all in together, has also ensured good values have been washed away in the process and in their place is what we see about us – from the assault on the family to the corruption of the new generation.
Removing protection from society does not free society up in the least. In fact, it speeds enslavement.
