The surveillance society is a topic everywhere including here at NO and this article has a fair summary of the current state of play (if you will excuse the expression)
And this comment, from gnudyfet, highlights the unintended consequences-
“There are deep social ramifications in surveillance societies that are often overlooked, especially once they become established intergenerationally. Perhaps the best example is not so much East Germany’s “Stasi”, but rather Coucescou’s Romania, where truly every action observable was reported and being seen in public with the wrong expression could be sufficient to draw attention of the secret police.
Those born into such societies learn quickly that to survive one must be deliberately deceptive at all times. This quickly bleeds into all other human relations, personal, family, commercial, etc. That is what the true future of the US is, and the true cost of surveillance is the social destruction of society itself.”
There is also another aspect to this. Because it has become common knowledge that CCTV cameras are everywhere and governments are reading our emails (allegedly), Is it all misdirection on the part of the PTB; having us all worry about spy technology while they are busy doing something else?
I say that because, after the TdF and before the MotoGP, I saw part of this BBC programme about Uri Geller claiming to be a ‘psychic spy’
I am not sure what to make of it, his claims I mean. I might watch the whole programme again on the iPlayer when I get time.
Two thoughts occurred to me while watching:
First – the ability is real as confirmed by Russell Targ and Hal Puthoff who both made contributions. Their decades of research on the subject have shown that more than 80% of people have the ability after being shown how.
But Puthoff was a bit shifty when asked why the CIA programme had ended and would he allow the ‘agents’ to be reactivated and he said no. His reason for saying no was not convincing because I have heard another reason – the ability is seriously compromised by any evil intentions in the mind of the ‘agents’.
That second reason could, of course, be another bit of misdirection just to help the disinformation machine.
Secondly – Geller showed the vast array of technology protecting his house, video cameras and suchlike and I thought – why would he need all that if he has psychic/paranormal abilities?
You may well say, why so sure the ability is real? When in doubt, about anything, it is best to rely on your own experience. When I wrote this blog post last year I stated ‘déjà vu’ …. is the usual expression [to describe the prelude to seizures] but, to me, that is something entirely different.
Since writing that piece, I have thought a great deal about ‘déjà vu’ which happens often, has always happened and is unrelated to seizures. And it is not recherche du temps perdu.
The other question I asked myself was why is Geller telling us all this? And why now?
All very strange but I remain, as always, open minded about everything.
