Livery Stable blues

In 1917 the first jazz record ever released was a smash hit: Livery Stable Blues by the Original Dixieland Jazz Band.

But it’s all a bit rattle-and-clang: there’s a far superior version by the excellent NORKs – the New Orleans Rhythm Kings. Just let youtube lead you through many of their other tracks.

  1. I have a 1922 version on a NORKs CD, although the track is listed as being performed when they called themselves the Friars Society Orchestra.
