What mark-up for fabric and cut?

You saw this yesterday and you were asked to pick the £800 outfit, as against all the others .

Ok, numbering from left to right, N1 is a dog’s breakfast, N2 is a mess of a design although as she’s standing up properly and modelling it, I suppose it’s the £800 one, N3 is cut nicely if you don’t mind your eyes going batty over the chevrons, N4 is nothing special, N5 could be OK if she modelled it properly and N6 is what many wear for £20.

As a few readers, mainly women, pointed out, it’s an unfair comparison as it comes down to fabric texture, wearability and other things.   I had some jeans in Russia which were over the odds, a name label and frankly, the fabric was soft and strong and the cut was perfect for me.  So yes – I’d pay twice the average amount.

Never thought I was into labels but there are also some label cords still in the cupboard from 15 years ago – the knees still haven’t gone on them.   So yes, fabric and cut do count, often quite heavily but £800 as against £5?

  1. A fool and her money are soon parted. Especially those whose ‘savings plans’ consist wholly of buying ‘stuff’ at sales.

  2. :)

  3. That reminds me of the very expensive garments in Selfridges that look like they won’t last 6 months.

I have to walk through there when I park in Birmingham. I always walk through the store very quickly…
