Been there, done that.

It’s the Daily Mail’s turn to do a wish list of things to do before we die.

Since I had nothing better to do I thought I would tick the boxes and divide them into three categories:

A) done that:-
2. Travel the world
5. Be mortgage free
8. Visit the Egyptian Pyramids
9. Invent something that changes lives (but it’s a secret – you will see it when I die)
14. Learn to play the piano / guitar / drums
15. Stay a night at the world’s best hotel (stayed in a few 5star hotels and I’m glad I wasn’t paying)
16. Build your own house
20. Emigrate (I came back)
21. Learn to speak another language (several times)
23. Dine at a Michelin star restaurant (vastly overrated and overpriced)
26. Live and work abroad
30. Start and run your dream business (not recommended, the banksters will eat you eventually)
35. Dedicate time to volunteering
36. Try out an F1 car (not quite but it was a single seater open wheeler)
38. Have a family
44. Watch a World Cup final

B) no chance, I’m not stupid:-
10. Visit Antarctica
12. Go on an African Safari
25. See Gorillas in the wild
33. Gamble in Las Vegas
40. Climb a mountain like Everest
48. Abseil down a mountain
49. Do an army assault course
50. Deep sea dive

C) why?:-
1. Become a millionaire (overrated)
3. See the Northern Lights (OK I’ll think about it)
4. Trek the Great Wall of China
6. Go to the Inca Trail
7. See all seven wonders of the world (seven? where are they?)
11. Go to the orient express
13. See the Taj Mahal (I’ll think about that too)
17. Drive Route 66 in the US
18. Go to Lapland
19. Swim with dolphins / sharks
22. Own an island
24. Write a novel (I’ll leave that to Mr Higham)
27. Hot air balloon ride
28. Fly a plane
29. Travel New Zealand in a Winnebago (that’s somebody’s ambition?)
31. Ride a Segway
32. Go to Disneyworld
34. Act as an extra in a Hollywood film
37. Learn to fly a plane or helicopter
39. Be an extra in a movie
41. Buy a yacht (again, that’s Mr Higham’s department)
42. Meet your idol / favourite celebrity
43. Run a marathon (pointless waste of energy)
45. Meet the Queen
46. Learn to surf
47. Go to Harry Potter World in Florida (who the hell compiles these lists???)

    “Drive Route 66 in the US”: I’ve done that – in a Greyhound bus. The main things you learn are that the US is huge and much of it bloody boring.
