1. “Why Is It That So Many Good Causes Get Hijacked By Bad People?” asked R.F. Wilson. “Take human rights. I’ve got nothing against human rights. In fact, I’m all for them. But why is it that so many disgusting people hijack the good cause of promoting and safeguarding human rights and start milking it for all it’s worth? And eventually it results in lowlifes and scumbags jumping on the human rights bandwagon and pushing out decent people whose liberties and freedoms are trampled and abused. It’s just ain’t right.”
2. In 2011, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) behaved in a regrettably consistent manner: iteuthanized the overwhelming majority (PDF) of dogs and cats that it accepted into its shelters. Out of 760 dogs impounded, they killed 713, arranged for 19 to be adopted, and farmed out 36 to other shelters (not necessarily “no kill” ones). As for cats, they impounded 1,211, euthanized 1,198, transferred eight, and found homes for a grand total of five. PETA also took in 58 other companion animals — including rabbits. It killed 54 of them.
3. America has everything it needs for success in the twenty-first century with one exception: a critical mass of thinkers, analysts and policy entrepreneurs who can help unleash the creative potential of the American people and build the new government and policy structures that will facilitate a new wave of private-sector led growth. Figuring out why so many of our intellectuals and experts are so poorly equipped to play a constructive role — and figuring out how to develop the leadership we currently lack — may be the most important single thing Americans need to work on right now.
Not just in America. Why? Politically, consider which political philosophy has the hegemony within thinking institutions and there you are.

Most so-called “intellectuals” that I have run across didn’t really impress me that much; most seem to be “experts” in a narrow field, with little outside knowledge, and very little personal experience in the areas they claimed to be specialists in, even though they could tell you all about all the classes they took.
“Socialism in general has a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it.”
– Thomas Sowell
Human rights and involuntary euthanasia are championed by the kind of leftist doublethinkers who say ignorance is strength, freedom is slavery and war is peace.
Yep.
It was in oh-so-liberal Scandinavia that involuntary euthenasia (eugenics) continued as standard practise for decades after Hitler had given it a bad name.
If there’s a purpose for this blog, it’s to set the record straight as far as research allows and part of that is for commenters to correct and point out things as you’ve done, Banned – on any topic. Didn’t realize that about Scandinavia.
