When I was a lad, growing up in a solid upper working class family and starting out on my life’s journey with the help of Rationing, my mum never used leftovers. There were none. Instead Mum had a well used schedule of meals with which she ensured us something different, and just enough, every day. For a week. The schedule was so robust that the same meals were served on the same day every week from the time I was, oh, three, until 17, at which point I left home in search of something a little more exotic.
