   Getting on for decades ago now but I was driving back to Melbourne from Geelong in a new Honda when it began hailing – not quite as bad as in the clip but not good all the same – all cars were sheltering under bridges [flyovers] and I couldn’t get a spot.

   Result was dents everywhere in the roof which took a huge amount off the resale value.

   I sat out something like that in a budget beachside campsite just south of Naples.
   Many of the locals frame-tents and caravans were battered and buckled but my trusty little mountaineering tent survived reasonably intact.

   I’d only intended to stay overnight but the place and people were great, stayed a fortnight and never did get to Syracuse.
