I can’t keep up with all this:

Great for red headed men too……Greg Rutherford, Ed Clancy, Chris Hoy, Dan Purvis, Bradley Wiggins et al. Or is that too sexist or colourist to say these days
Agreed – and as Jessica said last night as she reeled off all the people who had supported her – it’s not just her. However, when she went inside that Colisseum, then it was her and the crowd. She paid tribute to the crowd, as did the others.
She is wonderful – in my eyes the perfect balance and sane perspective – but on that last straight, there was only her and it was her achievement alone.
It is so difficult to think of all the horrible manipulation and exploitation in the background I’ve been blogging about when people like those three last evening did as they did. If that can’t uplift the spirit, then I don’t know what can.
PS: quite nervous about Ben Ainslie today and Andy/Laura.
I’m supporting Louis Smith in the pommel horse competition and Nicola Adams in the Women’s Boxing (Fly 51kg) today.
I met Nicola at Leeds Bradford airport on my way home from China last year and she was lovely. Had her gold medal from the championships (not sure if world or european) under her tracksuit, not on show. Shy and self effacing when I asked to see it and congratulated her. I’d spoken to the referee stood next to me who had known her since she started at 12 and he reckoned she’d get gold in London. Another one who’s done it without financial support.
Her brother took her to the gym and waited for her til it was time to go home. Her coach is a typical bluff Yorkshireman who had had no truck with women in his gym or in boxing but had a complete revelation when she started with him. Now has several women boxers training with him and said on TV they were harder workers than the boys!
Watching Andy and Laura at the end of one point where he went for a shot near the net then stepped to one side as he quickly realised she could do it better was brilliant. His ego didn’t get in the way, just great sportsmanship and an ability to let the player in the best position do their job. I think this will do wonders for Laura’s game and her confidence. Silver at least will be a great result.
Even I got interested last night!
Yea, certainly amazing things happening, even today.
