Dearieme presents Cleo Brown
Posted on June 27th, 2012 by Dearieme
A bluesie-woosie chantoosie (as Fats might well have said) was recently drawn to my attention by the memoirs of Kingsley Amis. Here’s Cleo Brown with a piano blues.
I prefer her in jazz mode; “stride” I suppose.
She also plays other piano styles: here she is with the classic Pinetop’s Boogie Woogie.
I wonder whether this was one of Amis’s favourite tracks – he was quite a boozer, after all.
Lastly, it’s rather touching that Dave Brubeck wrote a tribute to Cleo: herewith.

Yes, Amis was fond of jazz and drinking. Not a bad way to go.
Love the Brubeck at the end too.
