Courtesy of Edward Spalton: What moves public opinion is not fact nor reasoned argument but feelings generated by what comes in “under the radar” of conscious thought. I wrote this when I was campaigning to “keep the pound”. That was a campaign which could have been won but only because the Conservative Party had put [...]

All right, the Mail is a comedy paper, giving that little bit of a laugh to the morning reads, usually awash with doom and gloom. This one though had me shaking my head in disbelief: World-famous Eton pianist arrested for ‘beating up her husband’ and spent eight hours in a cell WTF? A man who [...]

If someone were to write: I’m being drawn towards Christianity for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that it seems to be the very anti-thesis of everything They believe in. They feared Jesus then and they still fear him now. I’ve been watching a series of lectures by someone called Professor [...]

Had to smile at this one. It was a rundown on the ten most evil animals, in the writer’s opinion but when he got to the Panda, that was classic. And he’s right: This may sound heretical or even downright mean. But let’s not mince words: pandas are evil. Oh, but they’re so cute, you [...]

One thing getting up my nose is the way you hardly see any poster ad in any public place or in any literature where the photographed person is not from an ethnic minority, is a woman or both. Don’t get me wrong, if it comes to a choice of looking at a giant picture of [...]

All right, if a group of Christians wish to set up business connections UK wide, then that’s fine by me and probably by all but the most rabid anti-Christian. A look at their website sees a fairly prescriptive series of principles which need to be agreed first: The following doctrines, from the Evangelical Alliance Basis [...]

The trouble began shortly after arriving at the junction station. A girl came up to me and asked if “that was right”. “That” apparently meant the board with the train times and ours was missing. Allow me to explain.

NGC 6744 is almost twice the diameter of the Milky Way, which is approximately 100,000 light-years across. It is about 30 million light-years away in the southern constellation of Pavo (the Peacock), and is as bright as around 60 billion suns with a hazy glow that spreads across a relatively large area in the southern [...]

Scientific American, to their credit, ran this: False positives and exaggerated results in peer-reviewed scientific studies have reached epidemic proportions in recent years. The problem is rampant in economics, the social sciences and even the natural sciences, but it is particularly egregious in biomedicine. And as I’ve been going on about ad nauseam:

As if we needed any more evidence that Common Purpose is part of the many-headed hydra which is steadily working against the citizen and the nation, this below might help dispel any doubt. Why should you care? The vast majority of moneys paid to Common Purpose for their “training courses” come from the public purse [...]

This coming saturday the 4th of June sees the 232nd running of The Derby at Epsom. First run in 1870, The Derby is probably the most famous horserace in the world and is contested over one mile, four furlongs and 10 yards of what is probably the worst racecourse in the world.

Subrosa ran a post and to be fair, it’s from the Scottish point of view and not the English. Essentially, it was saying that “upon reflection” it is better not to have an in/out referendum: “None of the proponents of an “in/out” referendum appears to have given any thought as to how the process of [...]

Hasn’t been an issue for a long time. Noticed this evening that it had spammed a lot of regular commenters again, as it did in the bad old days. Also a huge influx of spam overall. Thought that had all finished, with the tweaking we did. Appears we might have to again. Apologies.

Modern digital cameras are wonderful machines with their whirring and beeping and flashing lights and auto-everything and…. Oh, but sometimes I get all nostalgic for the days when all you needed was a roll of Tri-X and a camera that didn’t need batteries. Kielder Horse Guards Parade

Very bad – most retrograde step. Here are two comments, one from a man, one from a woman: Lee_in_KY This follows the typical, liberal/progressive pattern: Take control over something that is successful, identify something that’s not broken, and try to fix it, enact policies in an effort to promote your personal ideology (even when all [...]
