Knox parents’ false claims

As convicted murderess Amanda Knox’s parents come up for trial themselves, it’s as well to examine some of the falsehoods they’ve uttered in the American media and around West Seattle, where the groupthink is apparently so strong that anyone accepting Knox’s guilt in the murder is ostracized. Bad behaviour

The book shown at left is a collection of John Michell’s columns written for The Oldie. One of Amazon.com’s reviewer’s describes Michell’s writing thus- It’s that easy combination of neo-Platonism and pub grub that at one time seemed so naturally English, though it has almost disappeared from New Britain. In one of his columns in [...]

Cannabis, kids and psychosis

On this topic, I’ve no axe to grind over the weed itself but would still like to know the facts. With past knowledge of cannabis [not now], I can see the beneficial effects but if there really are negatives, then these need to be spelt out. Dr Matthew Large of the University of NSW School [...]

NAFTA and the drug conduit

Put two stories together and you get an entirely different perspective to that which each, in itself, gives: 1.  Mexican drug wars Authorities say gunmen ambushed and killed a top police commander and then set his car on fire in the northern Mexican border state of Nuevo Leon.

The young and the old

Unfortunate that The Telegraph ran these two stories [above] side by side. When a society spends billions forcing people to be compassionate, in a PC way, with a resultant decrease in compassion, coupled with anxiety, resentment of foreign freeloaders, removal of protection of children, causing them to do drugs and have sex at eleven or [...]

Access to our forests

Ellee writes of the sell-off of the forests.  Strange thing, in the days of the royal monopoly, to the point where the common people had no automatic access, the necessity was to get them out of royal hands.  Now the necessity is to keep them in royal hands or at least in the people’s.

Love stories

So, all that remains this evening is to recount some anecdotes about love: Barry Norman [through the Mail, courtesy of Rossa] Diana and I usually slept apart for no other reason than she claimed my snoring kept her awake. Well, I guess it’s true; I do snore — even I have my imperfections.

Most desirable UK parliamentarians

I read that Lynne Featherstone was voted the most desirable UK parliamentarian so on this Day of Love, a politically incorrect desirability gallery seemed to be in order to brighten our day.  I googled: most desirable uk parliamentarians … [notice I didn't stipulate female] and came up with:

For all women today

[Even Lynne Featherstone]  Don’t blame me for this – it was sent by a delectable female of the species: JD, the old young[ish] smoothy, made a comment yesterday: Women have a strange power over men; we love them and we hate them, very often both of these things at the same time. But this strange [...]

Marriage is between a man and a woman

Featherstone can legislate all she likes that the the Pope’s a Jew, that the sky is scarlet or that politicians are not corrupt, her fellow PC maniacs can alter dictionaries to include false constructs but one thing she cannot destroy, just because she wants it to be so, is that marriage is between a man [...]

Meritocracy and Direct Democracy 3

Part 1 is here. Part 2 is here. Part 3 is here. Part 1 looked at a sketch of how direct democracy might be run, Part 2 gave reasons it should be run.  This part goes a little more into the structure.

Meritocracy and Direct Democracy 2

Part 1 is here. Part 2 is here. Part 3 is here. Democracy does not prevent tyranny, as has been shown because it virtually invites the committed, knowledgeable and unprincipled to take over the nation and work with similar people in other nations to virtually keep their populations ignorant and in servitude.

Train talk

Well, I’m not so sure about the police now. Lovely day, sunshine wise but pretty brutal otherwise and I had to stand up to a couple of people today – that’s neither here nor there. The train station [my local station] was in an appalling condition for litter, electronic board not working, damage etc. and [...]

The Blues in a bowler hat.

In the early part of the sixties, many of the new British pop groups had drawn their inspiration from obscure and previously unknown American blues singers. Many of these singers and musicians were then invited to tour the UK at various times either individually or collectively in a show called The American Folk Blues Festival. [...]
