There are many wallpaper sites out there but one which is quite impressive is Desktopnexus, which fits the image to your computer. Like everything else, you have to search for the really good ones but they’re there and I’m going to post a few from time to time. Here’s one: Feel free to take them [...]

Outraged by a moronic mademoiselle in Melbourne [a young feminist journo, which is a class I have no truck with - give me a proper woman any day, as long as I can be a proper man], your [not so] humble blogger left a comment on her post. That’s all. __________________________ Update: Oops – think [...]

Well, I’m glad it hasn’t quite come to this yet over here. Thousands of unemployed had the opportunity for employment at a fair which was held in Chongqing, in Sichuan Province, China. Maybe it is as bad as that over here, only we do it through computers.

Everything really is relative. Melanie Phillips’ article referred to a certain “mawkishness” with regard to the armed forces, where we venerate the soldiers while decrying what they do. I think it’s more that these are people we can relate to, redolent of our great past, as against the politicians who send them to win unwinnable [...]

Vox stuns again with the news that California public school students identifying as Latino have now broken through the 50% barrier. I never knew it was that high. He goes on: The main reason for California to stay within the Union is its forthcoming bankruptcy and hope for a Federal bailout that is unlikely to [...]

From 50s web, a chilling tale told simply: Performing in concert was very profitable and Buddy Holly needed the money it provided. “The Winter Dance Party Tour” was planned to cover 24 cities in a short 3 week time frame (January 23 – February 15, 1959) and Holly would be the biggest headliner. Waylon Jennings, [...]

Dion was one of those more cited by fellow artists than by the public after the initial fever for his doo-wop had had its time. He’s one of two pop artists on the Sergeant Peppers cover.

Liz has an important post up about that meteor currently hurtling towards earth and she points out the scientific opinion that to deflect it, one need only paint the meteor black on one side. Now I would polish one side, not unlike a cricket ball and then it would swing better but would need a [...]

“Unsung” in terms of the world knowing of them: Jeff Fenech was triple world champion in different divisions and tried to add a fourth division by stepping up a weight. In a megahyped match in the U.S. [below], the fight was declared a draw but you judge for yourself how much a draw it was [...]

What an extraordinary statement by these security men. Not the first part, which is plain sailing: The couple were rushed to hospital and on the way Jacqui Kennedy looked at her dying husband and said: ‘What have they done? What have they done?’ [My emphasis] Fine, that’s clear. And the second is also fine:

1. In the 16th century, there was a drink called El Draque” in honour of a certain English pirate. The cocktail was to disguise the taste of the early rum but as copper stills that led to the modern (and much better tasting) form of rum. A Cuban sauce made from garlic, olive oil and [...]

UK suckers Telegraph: Critics complain that the Bill, which promises a referendum on proposed transfers of sovereignty to the European Union, only allows the British people a say if ministers deem the change significant enough. They all seem to be living in cloud* cuckoo land, stating the bleedin’ obvious. Osborne is a Bilderberger globalist – [...]

First introduction to the Pyramids comes on the road to Giza where the hedges are all shaped accordingly. The only thing missing from the photograph below is sound. And the sound would be beep-beep. Non stop all day everywhere you go beep-beep; not an angry blaring of horns just a quick beep-beep for the sake [...]

It’s hard to know which issue to pick, there are so many things just plain wrong. Take this one: Leanne Hall, a children’s specialist at Readings Carlton who recommends titles to schools and book clubs, says the response to [a book in which twelve children kill each other in an arena] has been huge.

Jennifer Day [35] who cried rape and was jailed. How many others will get away with it with this new ruling? This is so wrong: Male suspects will not be granted anonymity in rape cases. Obviously it means until convicted but it’s a very dangerous move, for all sorts of reasons. It means a man [...]

You have swept up all the fallen leaves and you have them in a neat pile in the garden. Now what? Can’t burn them or the enviroloonies will arrest you. Can’t dispose of them until the Council decides it is the correct day of the week/month/year for collecting your recycle-garden-waste bin and they won’t all [...]

The percentage of people reading this who understand the transition question from IPv4 to IPv6 is likely to be high, as there’s a fair amount of computing knowledge about. I found it useful to look at the following articles in this order: IPv4 IPv6 Vint Cerf Transition requirements For bloggers, the issue is that the [...]

Second of the TenYears gone series by Mark Wadsworth, cross-posted at his site: I have often described the last decade as the pinnacle of Home-Owner-Ism – an economic philosophy which, in true 1984 fashion, represents the mutually exclusive beliefs that “Rising house prices are a good thing” and “It is important to encourage a wider [...]
