Your [not so] humble blogger just adores his Google ads in the right sidebar – they always come up right on cue. In response to this post on the Pill, Google thoughtfully flashed the lesbian solution to the problem and it has to be admitted – it’s a birth control method I hadn’t considered. So, [...]

Remind you of anything? Forget the election, forget the political and social troubles we face – there’s something far more important which has people up in arms everywhere – Delia Smith has presented a dud risotto through Waitrose. Here are the comments now pouring in: # There is no fury like a Delia acolyte scorned. [...]

There was a moment, many years ago, strolling along the shore in the early evening warmth, when WN2 asked me to have a closer look at her slightly thickening waistline. Interesting that, as she’d been taking the Pill. Well actually, she’d been a bit careless, so it had turned out and had got the non-take [...]

The following comments from the Guardian, the Mail and the Telegraph have been grouped according to political affiliation. They’re quite revealing: Rosette Tory reductio ad simplisticum I am often dismayed by the views of those on the Tory right for whom nothing is positive. Already they (you?) are beginning to plot the downfall of the [...]

Every pundit will no doubt be hunched over the keyboard, putting out the analysis, so here’s my tuppence halfpenny worth. The key issues come down to: 1. As Bill Cash said on BBC TV tonight, the EU question will not go away. There is deep trouble in Europe and the order that the UK bail [...]

There’s an interesting article in the Mail today which illustrates the divide in the UK: It is clear after yesterday that a dangerous split runs through the heart of [our] country. In place of unity, we are now two nations. Vast swathes of Wales, the North of England and almost the whole of Scotland are [...]

Stanley Kubrik was reported in the Guardian, June 5th, 1963, as having said: The great nations have always acted like gangsters and the small nations like prostitutes. Similarly with political parties, the great parties have always acted like gangsters and the small parties like prostitutes or, as the Telegraph put it today: Influential adviser Lord [...]

When you make a blockbuster film, you want to combine all the elements – suspense, romance, intrigue, action, mystery and so on, to varying degrees. Into the mix you need a fair dose of treachery and false heroes. The story of the Turin Shroud has all of these and more and my conclusion at the [...]

Only in China do you get matter of fact headlines such as: April trade surplus down 87% Rainstorms kill 24, displace 42,000 in Jiangxi Over 30,000 stray cats sterilized in Beijing The last one must have been fun.

Yeah, OK. Brown out, Millipede and Cruddas in, Lab Dem coalition, Tories turn on Command and Control Cameron who promised to deliver and didn’t, real conservatives return, Lab Dem implode, new election, proper Tories in. That last bit might be a bit wrong but up to then seems right. Of course, the whole thing might [...]

People are very sensitive on this matter but I assure you – it’s no more than a question of how far you’re prepared to research and which texts you’re willing to delve into, often down sidepaths off the beaten track, without being repulsed. With any topic, one starts at the top [of this graph, for [...]

Seems pretty obvious, doesn’t it? Let the Scots have what they want – their own parliament, their own power to fund their own dole, give the Welsh the same. England funds England, Scotland funds Scotland, Wales funds Wales and so on. All sorted – West-Lothian and Barnett Formula solved, everyone happy.

It’s very nice to see this: The national “tea party” movement toppled its first incumbent Saturday as long-serving Sen. Robert F. Bennett was defeated at the Utah Republican Party‘s nominating convention, the most powerful demonstration yet of the anti-Washington tide that is altering the nation’s political landscape. … because it says that people are tired [...]

One is on May 8th and the other on May 9th. Try this quiz: 1. As the surrender was on May 8, 1945 at 23:01 CET, what anomaly did this officially cause? 2. Actually, who refused to accept the Rheims signing, for political reasons? 3. Who was the officer presiding over the surrender? 4. Winston [...]

The Albion Alliance weekend left participants absolutely knackered, with most facing a fair old car journey home. We surprised ourselves how far reaching were proposals and actions and certain of you trusted people are going to be privy to these in the next day or two and then others and so on. Everything was thrashed [...]

The Australians tackle problems differently. The parliamentary budget is apparently about to be brought down: Millions of dollars will be spent trying to halt the spread of radical islam ideology as part of a big Budget package to bolster national security. Personally, I can’t see that they can do much trying to “educate” people about [...]

The trouble is I don’t have my power cord with me so I’m on battery. The Albion Alliance marathon began today and the new tactics were thrashed out – the nitty-gritty comes tomorrow. The principle remains the same. We will report to AA signatories/supporters after tomorrow’s round two and canvass opinion. Sorry no other [...]

Yours truly, this weekend, is at what could be grandiosely called a conference but is more like a meeting over pints in the centre of England, to discuss Phase 2 of the Albion Alliance, how best to broaden it to a larger base and to create proposals to put to that base as a starting [...]

As your [not so] humble blogger read: The decision to give Nick Clegg a platform was a grave blunder, as even Mr Cameron has come close to acknowledging. Mr Hilton, meanwhile, shoulders responsibility for crafting a message that failed to connect with sufficient force. Just to repeat that: “to give Nick Clegg a platform”
