Find the true conservatives in your constituency

Binary.ashxThis by Gerald Warner:

The “cast-iron” lie about the Lisbon Treaty referendum; the endless contradictions on the economy; the insolence towards party workers; the clique dominating the party and lecturing true Conservatives about their outmoded principles; the aggressive complicity with the culturally Marxist PC agenda; the flaky, drama queen women candidates; the sense of entitlement; above all, the sheer, monumental incompetence: what’s not to like – especially if you are a Labour supporter? Why are the Tories struggling in the polls? Because their core vote has abandoned them – as they arrogantly encouraged it to do.

… received this by Conservative Home, [H/T Ross Fountain] beneath a picture of DC being shot in the back by true Conservatives:

It’s worth noting that if there’s ill-discipline amongst the commentariat there’s enormous discipline within the parliamentary party. There are almost no noises off. Good for our MPs and peers.

That’s the giveaway, Tim – your concern with “ill-discipline” and don’t be too sure about the PPCs – we’ve spoken to many of them.  Some of them still have Conservative principles, believe it or not.  This is not about discipline but about principles and standards.  That’s what would easily get the Tories over the line.  Rather than try to appease disgruntled Labour voters to get the party over the line, if DC had stuck to his principles and promises, then the middle ground would have come to him and the party would be 30 points ahead.

Now no one trusts him and his control freakery.  It’s not a happy ship and confused comments like:

I was out leafletting at dawn and dusk, as usual today, in the cold and rain.  I am happy to do that because I believe passionately in Conservative values and standards and I want to do my bit to help elect a Tory Government led by David Cameron …

… show both the rift and the woolly thinking.  You can’t mention Conservative values and standards and then mention David Cameron in the same breath.  It’s like saying “sound running of the country” and “Tony Blair”.  I’ve enormous sympathy for the foot-soldiers out leafleting – I put in time every day on the admin side too, boring, repetitive stuff that no one sees. I do understand the passion and selflessness but it is precisely those Conservative principles and standards that we are talking about here – they are missing from DC’s platform and manner of doing business.

A more balanced comment was:

I agree with most of your article BUT where Party policy is clearly misconceived I would argue that strong supporters of the Party should constructively point this out.

Hallelujah!  Someone understands the problem. Autonomous Mind said in reply to MG…

Feel free to point out where the core conservative issues, such as freedom, are on display by Cameron.

What people like you do not seem to grasp is those of us who are critical of Cameron and the party want to be able to support it. The reason so many of us cannot support it is because so many conservative principles have been abandoned.

None of us asked to be treated with contempt by the party leadership. None of us asked to be transformed into a clone of New Labour for the sake of electoral expediency. Many of us complained. Many of us lobbied. We were derided as dinosaurs or ‘right wing’ loons, when we are nothing of the sort.

The electorate wants an alternative to Labour. Thanks to Cameron all that’s on offer is more of the same with different faces and a few relatively minor policy differences. THAT is why the opinion polls reflect falling support as more people who would vote Conservative say they won’t bother voting at all. There’s no point.

Paul Biggs said…

Cameron’s real problem is his huge mistake of indulging in consensus politics:

1.Cameron’s support for and adoption of bad or unsound New Labour policies.

2. Failure to have different, sound, sensible policies from New Labour and the Lib Dims on important issues such as climate, energy, transport, fuel tax, etc. and the yearly £100 billion of governemnt waste.

Cameron has therefore successfully disenfranchised voters making a hung parliament inevitable.  Gordon Brown must be delighted that Cameron is Tory leader, whereas many of us are very unhappy.

What annoys me is the way some Europhile Relativist “Tories” then call us Red when it is Cameron and they who are Red.  You think we don’t want Labour out?  Only an idiot would say we don’t.  Look at this post and this one please.  Nope, they don’t look Red to me.

When will the party wake up?  Lastly, when Conservative Home starts attacking its own favourite sons, like Norman Tebbitt, then commenters are bound to note:

Also I do hate the recent attacks of ConservativeHome on Norman Tebbit, this man helped save the country from many ills and he is deserving of some respect. You could disagree with him on just about anything but certain things are beyond question. He cares deeply about his country and he is forever true to his principles. He will never back someone who he does not think is good for the country and that is admirable not condemnable.

When a Conservative Party attacks the Conservatives in its party, it’s like Nu-Labour attacking it own support base and then attacking the country’s own values and then attacking anyone who attacks it.  The difference between Conservative and Labour is that Labour are clones, robots, all chanting, “Yes, we are individuals,” as in Life of Brian.  Conservatives are much harder to tame because they have men and women of principle in there, thinkers, not just Euroclones and these people tend to debate and therefore there are divisions and these are a sign of good health.

What should true conservatives do?

Simple.  Do your homework.   In all except for one constituency, you are not electing David Cameron but a local member.  The Albion Alliance provides you with a Candidate Database. Go in, find your constituency, using “refine search”, email the candidates or contact them by one of the other methods or physically visit them and find out which support conservative values and standards, for example, giving the people  a voice on the EU. Once you know which candidate does this best, walk or drive down there on polling day and vote for this person.

That way, parliament is filled with true conservatives and as all Acts of Parliament are passed by voting, then you will get your policy voted for.

In the case of Sackerson‘s constituency, for example, there are no true conservatives so the only thing he can do is find the least worst who has most of these values.  Not to vote at all is not a very good idea.

  1. I can’t tell the difference between any of the Poli-clones at the moment, they all have the same bad policies.

  2. The problem cameron has is they are shooting him from all sides. It’s only his own PPCs and MPs that are shooting him in the back. How very like Politicians

  3. Thanks for the mention James. It still eludes me why people think those on the centre right should rally to the Conservatives, when the party by the admission of its own leader, is now on the centre ground. It is wrong for ConsHome to criticise the critics when the fault lies with the party leadership.

The only way the Conservative Party will be relevant to its members is if it embraces democracy and makes the leadership accountable to the membership on matters of policy. Much of the Cameron agenda is being followed in spite of the members, not with their consent.

  4. I have a post coming up tomorrow morning which takes the gloves off about this [not doing anything political on Good Friday].
