The other side of the coin

Though illegal, paying for sex is widely accepted by many Russian men. The eight-laned highways which stretch out of the sprawling capital of 10.5 million teem with prostitutes, some of whom agree demand for sex has fallen. “Now they often talk about work.”

On a website where men can search for prostitutes in their area, a banner invites them to de-stress by simply talking: “When your stock price is falling, what better way to relax than chatting with one of our girls?”

On the other side of the road to my house when I was there, they were lined up at night along the patio and steps to the local school. Many cars went into that slip road at night. Most houses in the area had phone numbers daubed on the corner.  I think they were running a place in a flat above me and a bit further along.

I never understood the trade because most men could get a legit girlfriend fairly easily. Of course, girlfriends make demands and require some sort of fidelity but fewer and fewer were following the Russian way into marriage and were giving it away anyway at parties, which suited the boys fine.  So there was a situation where the majority of girls and young women were prostitutes of some form or other.

  1. James, I didn’t know where to put this, so here it is. Its the Trilateral Comm, you just got to watch it.

  2. Quite bluntly it appeals to men who want sex without commitment and all the other complications that a one to one relationship involves.

It reflects the selfishness ways of the peoples in the so called civilised sphere of the globe!

  3. Absolutely disgraceful – with exception of the brave young girl story. Anyone trafficking women should suffer a literal loss of both dirty hands. Any man caught using such a brothel should face the sanction of chemical castration.

    Next case please.

  4. I don’t think you have quite grasped the mechanics of this Cherry.

Why do the girls take these “speculative offers of work” so many miles away from home? Well because the regions they live and grew up in have become destitute and all the men with any ability leave to find work elsewhere. This leaves only men who cannot afford to keep a wife and the old – leaving the young women with little hope of a fulfilled life. I have seen this process at work in even poor parts of Europe.

Its another facet of our wonderful Globalization, destroying the economies of rural areas and leaving its human cost in its wake. The industrial revolution in England produced exactly the same result, now the process is on steroids.

  5. Sadly I do understand the mechanics of it. I was merely pointing out that people in the so called civilised world exploit these communities (in this case the girls) rather than help the communities to help themselves.

I haven’t experienced it first hand like you, but I do know how it works and the result of that sort of interference is a tragedy.
