Een nieuwe boot and other reports
In the previous news I wrote that I am in search of a new boat, because I must meet now so many requirements that the hurley 800 really too small has become. I can now with very much joy communicate that we have found another boat and have bought. I am now the proud owner of Jeaneau Gin Fizz ketch.
The boat is 11.50 meters long, compared to the Hurley 800, 8.5 meters. Also the difference is that this boat 2 masts has instead of 1 is. But I have already more often sailed with a boat of 13.5 meters and that felt in fact completely good to me. And I am finally also on a 2 master born. The breadth of this boat is also enormous, he is, as it happens, 3.76 m. widely and no less than 1.90 deeply.
The boat now still stands on the side but as soon as we the undersides and the fuselage have again painted, a new rudder undersat and still a number of other small activities have been performed on the undersides, is he ready to dive into water. And then am possible I for first turn there will sail.
I can put now still even no photograph on the site but I will place soon photograph of my new acquisition on the site. I am enormously glad with my new boat, but of course am there also to this boat a heap of work. I with my father have started already full good courage with scouring the boat, thus can I well see that this boat, however, a lot is larger.
As soon as it what warmer becomes and it stops with rain will I right to start make the boat further for my voyage around the world. I as from now also what more will write blog on my site, and at to will love the most recent events.
Right now it’s perfect sailing, with 20 knots of wind and sunshine. Life on board is same old, same old with the little ins and outs keeping me happy. As much as I’m looking forward to it, getting back home is going to be quite a shock, as I’ve really worked myself into my own groove out here.
One exciting thing that happened lately (exciting in my books anyway!) is that we sailed on the Indian Ocean chart which shows Australia on the far side. It looks so far away, yet so close at the same time. We’ll also be passing a surprising amount of little islands way down in the bottom of the Indian. I had no idea that there was anything down there other than endless waves.
Well I’m off to re-stow a few things and do a bit of tidying up. As always, after a quite few days sailing, the cabin has become a bit unruly. But a bouncy weather forecast is far more effective at forcing me to tidy up, then Mum ever was!
Today has been a very slow day. I haven’t had over 5 knots of wind all day and its been coming from all over the place. My clothes survived the night outside, they even made it through a squall! Its all safe down below now.
Wild Eyes does really well in light wind. In 5 knots we were doing about 4kts, but its not going to be fast enough to get me to were I needed to be to use the cold front to push me down to the Horn. Luckily there is another front coming on Monday or Sunday, so I should be able to use that.
I was doing some cleaning today (again) and I found the book I had been reading! I keep on misplacing it. This time I was quite sure it was gone for good since I hadn’t seen it since Cabo. The book is the Hobbit. Its not really the type of book that I usually would read but a friend gave it to me way back when I was in Rhode Island picking Wild Eyes up and its really a good book!
Now, if the wind will just stay coming from one direction for more than ten minutes, I’ll be able to find out what happens to Mr. Baggins and the dwarves!
