Team Laura wants a new boat
After the hullabaloo over the Dutch court’s taking into custody of Laura Dekker, she now finally has her chance, she has her boat Guppy but now what’s this?
Aangezien Laura en haar boot aan steeds meer eisen moeten voldoen,is besloten de Guppy niet verder aan te passen, maar om te zien naar een andere boot die zonder al te veel moeite vrijwel direct helemaal geschikt is voor de soloreis. In a nutshell, Team Laura has determined that she needs a new boat to do the trip in [I'd say around the 120 000 Euro mark, minimum] and are calling on sponsors to buy it for her.
Now, this puts me in a quandary. Certainly there was a a public outpouring of sympathy towards her but that is a little different to a public outpouring of money. I have no qualms about sending some cash to the fund but what happens when the team [meaning the father and others] get, say, 15 000 Euros, which I should think is about all people will give under the current financial circumstances? I was thinking about £20 myself. What happens after it falls woefully short of the mark?
Team Jessica and Team Abby both did it using their own resources and I remarked the other day that I didn’t think the father of Laura had that sort of money. So, it would have been one thing to collect 15 000 Euros or so to refit Guppy but a brand new boat is another matter. And what of the huge logistics issue of the support team and how much that would cost?
I’d be interested to know what people think about this.
