The crim was greedy, or a fool, or both. The innocent are more deserving of our time, let alone our sympathies. In my view crimes are things that harm others without their involvement or concent. This whole situation hinges around the fact that in the UK the criminal is not punished. There is always an excuse why the did the crime and the sentences do not provide deterrent. China is a red herring here. Punishment for crime anywhere should be sufficient to make the criminal think twice before doing the crime. If the price for stealing a pound of anything was 5 x the cost of that people would reconcider. As it is, steal a pound of anything pay nothing back is not a deterrent. I don’t think that dugs should be a crime myself. In my view crimes are things that harm others without their involvement or concent.

Personally, I don't believe in the Death Penatly, except for politicians, but this guy was guilty and at least some countries have laws that are not wishy washy.
