Alfa Romeo looks to have it in the bag

Barring setbacks and with Wild Oats on its tail, Alfa Romeo seems to be set to take line honours [at one stage it had the handicap too] in the Rolex Sydney to Hobart blue water classic not long from now. The UK boat ICAP Leopard is third and the other UK-based boat RAN is closing.

The handicap winner is currently changing from boat to boat down the fleet so that is not as easy to predict.  It’s been a slow race with fairly light winds, something Jessica also has over her way just now and for her sake, let’s hope it continues.

Meanwhile, food and water rationing has begun on some boats.

Things are getting desperate at sea for some of the back markers in this year’s snail-paced Sydney to Hobart yacht race.

Food and drink is now being rationed on board early handicap honours challenger Yendys.

“We have started to ration water to make sure we have enough for this extended Sydney Hobart race,” Yendys navigator Will Oxley told reporters today.

“The trimmers are no longer allowed to pour fresh water over their winches to keep them quiet. No tea or coffee overnight.”
