Big seas hit Hawaii

Apparently, the high waves which hit Hawaii every five years or so are back and yet early this year there were also high winds and seas:
WAToday reports [with video] that 50 foot waves are expected in the next few days. Although Hawaii has a reputation for monster surfs, it seems they only get to about 20-25 feet normally and it takes an unusual set of circumstances to produce the really big stuff.
On Monday, the surf grew so large that a few beaches on Oahu and Maui were closed because lifeguards feared inexperienced sightseers could drown, according to state officials.
“After the water comes in, it can drag you back out with it,” said Eric Basta, a manager at Surf N Sea in Haleiwa. “Be mindful of how powerful the surf really is.”
As violent as the waves were, they may grow in strength by Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. The high waves are expected to continue through to Wednesday.
As an adolescent, I remember having dreams of big waves crushing me and now I look back on a few blog posts concerning waves and rough water, I’m starting to wonder about this. Any dream interpreters out there? I’d still go out in them though.

Sounds great, though my surfing days are a bit behind me now, still I do like big waves to swim in or over.
I prefer to watch them at a safe distance!
