Cows at Ten
Posted on November 23rd, 2009 by James Higham
I really don’t understand what the woman is going on about below. Cows are lovely creatures, as I’m sure many would agree.
I once taught at a rural school where they were forever coming in the door and going for mini-stampedes around the place. One once ended up in the Headmaster’s office.
When I was a toddler [yes - it did happen], my mother apparently hit a cow over the head with a broom. Why? It only wanted to talk to me.
How’s your relationship with cows?

Knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t go near them. But I still like milk, cheese and steak. And I find them rather charming to look at.
On his blog MW often posts about ‘rampant’ cows and their destructive behaviour and could be accused of having ‘milked’ the subject. (No criticism)
Obviously MW is now looking at the problem from the ‘udder’ perspective!
Mostly I am fond of cows. But they can be dangerous… The mad one when I went camping with the guides, that breached the boundaries to get near me, scared me half to death and got me into trouble!
Don’t understand what the woman was going on about; if it is being a nuisance, you hit the dumb animal on the nose and make it back off.
When I graduated from high school, I had a job on a ranch to earn money for college. Found that cattle are mainly big, slow, and stupid, and had to be dealt with firmly. Contrary to what a lot of people say, sheep are NOT dumber than cattle. A cow is the only animal I’ve ever seen that will stand in the middle of a stream facing downstream, peeing and drinking at the same time. Even sheep are smarter than that.
I do like them very much. True, one went past me and I was summarily brushed aside once but it was hardly malice, unlike with penguins. You’ll have noticed from the vid that a woman’s screams are just as effective as any belt on the nose.
