European Union illegal and not binding since 1688
Preaching to the choir, I’m afraid.
It’s such a pity, given the positive tone of the post on the round the world sailor crossing the equator, to have to get negative again. There are three aspects:

If that is so, then as a Tory myself, I’m appalled at what my party said. However, there are two parties within the one and the Eurosceptics would never have agreed to that. That statement looks very bad indeed.

As of midnight last night, the terms of 26 European Commissioners expired. Of the 27-strong college, only one, President José Manuel Durão Barroso, has been reappointed. The others, on any conceivable reading of the rules, are now occupying their posts illicitly.
Why is the EU, yet again, disregarding its own rules of procedure? Because the composition of the Commission would be altered by the European Constitution (a.k.a. Lisbon Treaty), and Eurocrats were reluctant to go through an appointments procedure under the existing rules.
This is a body which was conceived in iniquity, does not follow its own procedures and yet binds us to them, let alone the way in which they are sucking us dry as a nation. We are already in enough trouble as a country and the EU is the final straw.
Please sign at the Albion Alliance and let’s join to at least get a referendum on this matter.
UPDATE: I’ve just cycled past my local newsstand and saw one daily, not sure which, call it a stitch up. This was wonderful and it must be on every newsstand in the UK. David Cameron’s careful wording, I’m afraid, was not enough. I’m getting annoyed.
We are not getting the replies we wanted, as we could have expected but we are getting the signatories. Now, my major task is to get these signatories to just write that one little email to their MP but to find the opposition candidates is a bigger task.
We also must go outside the internet and I fear that Ian’s point that we will need to do some leafleting might well be necessary soon.

Ashton is a woman who has never faced the electorate in any roll she’s played in politics, she’s an unelected peer, quangocrat and CND spokesweasel. That’s right, the first High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in the EU has never faced an election by the voting public in her life.
And they wonder why we oppose the whole corrupt organisation, at its most simple it’s because they don’t listen and they don’t ask.
Like I said, ultra vires. You may care to quote sections of the Bill of Rights e.g. the requirement in the Monarch’s oath:

The point is we are letting them do this to us. We will get what we deserve unless we stand together and say NO.

I’m off to examine the wording at the Albion Alliance declaration carefully again. Am almost thinking of signing up… I’ll tell you what I probably would sign up to: a European Alliance for the people of Europe to get control back over what their EU is, and how they manage their accounts. Any such thing exist James? Your link to the Open Europe site (if I remember correctly) of yesterday seemed to contain plenty evidence of broad support.
Team Europe is pan-European. Albion Alliance naturally is sympathetic and will do what it can but our focus is necessarily UK.
Derek, no we’re not letting it. The only reason AA exists is to apply pressure. We are not a logo in a sidebar group. We must have all signatories write – we’ve given the addresses and if it doesn’t work, then one by one, as we see that a particular member is holding out, we’ll publish it and hope you also will publish the name on your website.
This is what the people can do for themselves, apart from mass rallies which are ignored. Direct pressure on the MP. This weekend I shall be writing to every one of the sitting members and I hope some of you will do this too, as we can’t be sure we have signatories in every constituency.

It is a well established principle of English law that Parliament cannot bind future Parliaments.
Therefore, to claim that the 1688 Declaration of Rights makes the European Communities Act 1972, etc, unlawful is pure hogwash!
In February the European Court of Human Rights is to be reformed to allow the Council of Europe to grant the Committee of Ministers extra powers to control rogue states like the UK.
Time to move on, the British Empire and Great Britain and all that nonsense is in the past. The United States of Europe is the future.

Heckmonwyke: I am not British, rather I am proud to be a European. Much of Europe was under the jackboot during the Second World War, unfortunately Hitler did not invade the British mainland, and this is why they said never again!
On my blog I report about the Havard study which shows that the Tories are the party which rips off the electorate more by filling their own pockets when in power. Not something I am looking forward to following the next General Election.

Thud: Becoming part of the United States of Europe is the only chance the UK has of not sinking into obscurity.
James: Some PR firm has just been paid £2m to tell people what policing means! It would have cost nothing to simply show people by actions rather than words and glossy photos. The PR states the police will answer a 999 call within 10 seconds. What it does not state is that the call is answered by someone in a call centre who then wastes precious time by asking 20 questions, which is designed to prioritise responses. As one of the questions relates to the caller’s date of birth, more time is wasted whilst this information is checked against the Police National Computer to establish whether the caller has a criminal record. This means that someone who has a criminal record becomes less eligible for a high priority response. Given that time is of the essence in an emergency, surely this will only lead to some people taking the law into their own hands?
John, having said all that, the point is that this is a corrupt institution dedicated to destroying England as a concept and subjugating Britain, as it has always been, from 1066 through to Hitler and beyond. The whole point is to rip Britain off and impose a totalitarian regime – there’s no dispute on this – just look at the draconian wheeliebin legislation and avid prosecution as examples and the CCTV neighbourhood.

Don’t wish to offend, but my understanding is that there is no law in the UK that cannot be undone by any parliament on any given weekday. I appreciate that one can speak of an “unwritten constitution” metaphorically, or in a sociological, soft-and-broad sense of “constitutional” as being a list of culturally important ingredients. But this is not the same as an actual “hard” Constitution that is legally, categorically separate from and superior to normal law. Britain does not have a Constitution in this sense, only laws that are held, culturally, to be important. But this is not even a verbal contract in terms of being able to bind lawmakers. Sorry fellas.
And by the way, I don’t see how creating an increasingly unaccountable EU superstate with none of the historical checks and balances of nation-states won by democrats over elites, is progress either.
Your last sentence is the nub, Saoirsi. We have found ourselves in a situation, through the treachery of Westminster, which has seen our powers subsumed by the EU in a slow creep. So parliament cannot now undo laws at will but in accordance with EU Law.
This is our issue and why we need the referendum and even though a majority [on all polls to date] want this referendum, it is not being given. We have to find the way to make it happen and that involves hitting politicians where it hurts – votes in marginal constituencies.
