An A5 flyer printed off on a home printer is sufficient. Put the basic info on there plus the website address. There is no need to put any email address on it, they can get that from the website. The idea is to give them the basic information and somewhere to check for updates. The face to face contact in the street does work but you have to be prepared to talk to the people and explain to them what the problem is. With regards to the press if they think your story is interesting they will print it. Local newspapers are a very good source as are free local publications. Useful press contacts build up over time.
