With apologies to preceding eloquence, I park unsympathetic and crude observations. America is another psychotic neighbour on the block, capable of and hosting anything destructive. In a just world we would indict and punish such neighbours; in this world we simply buckle under the weight of the greatest intimidators.

My take is that he was indeed harrassed after 911 but whether it was on account of his stance or his being Muslim is 50/50. Either way, he took it hard. It’s said he wanted out of the army and they said no. Who knows? Both seem culpable and his fellow soldiers too for the constant provocation but he hardly helped his own cause.

It doesn’t seem a concerted terrorist attack unless there was another in it. It seems another of these American things they have from time to time – terrible but that’s all there is to it.

What also worries me is that to just be a Muslim seems now to be a risk and that tends to drive you further into the arms of Sharia and you take exaggerated pride in it, whereas a normal attitude to your local Muslim might leave him moderate.

I never said anything about Christianity until they started trying to overtly destroy it. Similar thing. In the Muslims’ case, these radical supermosques don’t help – they really are an abomination in a non-Muslim land because they are there for radical purposes, they’re an assertion.

And it now seems clear that the military authorities knew several months ago that this man was posting praise for Islamic suicide bombers on websites, and was spouting all the usual nonsense about killing “infidels” being acceptable, and yet they left him in the US Army. Army Intelligence? We are told to “respect” other people’s religious views, even when their views are that they are allowed to kill us if we offend those views, with the definition of “offend” being in their hands. I didn’t understand being obliged to respect that which I regarded as unworthy of respect when I was a lad, and the issue was much less threatening. But now? By the standards of the posts and most comments on this blog I am a “liberal lefty”, but I’m shoulder to shoulder with you on this issue.

It would be all the worse for us, should something similar happen here. The state has effectively disarmed the population.
