Remembrance Sunday
Posted on November 8th, 2009 by James Higham
Today, in Britain, the 11th of November is being remembered three days too early and out of step with the rest of the allied world. No matter. This blog will run Remembrance on the correct day and there will be a reasonably lengthy article on it all, as usual.
So if you’re looking for something on it today, that’s why.

Maybe a lot of people will be working on the 11th, and today is the only day they will be able to attend services. The two minute silence will be observed as usual on Wednesday.
At 11 on the 11 th my village here in France will come to a standstill, as I assume will all the others over the country. We will walk from the town hall to the war memorial lead by the oldest surviving war veteran, a wreath will be placed by selected school children, the mayor will read the speech sent from Paris and add extra in her own words about the British – this extra has now become a tradition since I and a couple of other brits moved here. At the end we all wander back to the village hall where a good time is had by all.
Angus – yes.
Ivan – sigh. Oh to be in France.
The nearest I will get to it today is to post a Poppy Pic with my thought for the week
I have one planned for Wednesday, but today was a bit more personal as it was church service today with my Grandmother and to remember another family veteran we lost this year
Interesting discussion.
I’m in France (06 Dept), we will have the usual ceremony at the large war memorial overlooking the sea, and of course the 11th is a public holiday.
My friend Jean Marc was surprised when I told him that the UK does not have a public holiday on the 11th, considering how significant the date is.
