Even simpler: you have five vertical rows – remove all matches in rows 2 and 4 and one match from row 3, thus leaving 6 equal rectangles and 1 larger one.

There’s loads of ways. Just remove 8 inside ones to leave 8 rectangles, and remove one exterior one to stop the outside being a square.
