Gangsters’ molls and the gender gap

bonnie and clyde small

Women are not a special sacrosanct group in society, for goodness sake – they are one half of society and among them are the intelligent, stupid, long, short, fat and thin, strong and weak, just as with men.

There are differences in temperament which are gender based – men tend to have a certain mindset or reaction to situations and women another and so be it.  What’s the problem?  There doesn’t need to be a Feminazi movement just to tell us that.

One thing many women and girls are susceptible to, to a greater extent than with men, is the blind loyalty to the partner or the gang.  It is different.  The besotted man will pen love poems and stand outside her window for hours, in the hope of catching a glimpse but he’s sure as hell not going to store weapons for her to use with her gang.

Claudia Webb from the Trident Independent Advisory Group says vulnerable young women are sometimes pressured into storing or transporting weapons by the men they know. “We are deeply concerned however, that this involvement seems to be increasing and those who are involved seem to be younger and younger,” she added.

The number of women charged with firearms offences in London has increased six-fold in the past year – 12 women have been charged since January.

At the school where I was one of the heads, we had a woman join the clothes washing and cleaning staff.  She did our rooms as well and all was well until one day when she disappeared, along with my quadraphonic sound system, giga-tele and the school’s computers.

Quite right – it turned out she was the gang’s moll and her hero was the leader of the pack, like something out of Westside Story.  Outside of video clips and film, where have you ever seen a woman walking about with a dozen men in tow?  Men are too lone wolf for that.

Even in the blogosphere, there are people who have a few “vulnerable young women” around them they persuade to do things – the original smooth-talking bad-boys, in full caricature.  It’s a phenomenon but that’s not what this post is about.

I wonder if this problem of the accolyte women is any better or worse today than before, whether the problem is any more aggravated by the loss of respect in the past three decades and especially in the last twelve years.

One unfortunate character trait that inflicts itself on me is expecting that everyone, women included, be responsible for what they say and for how they act and that there are consequences, good and bad, which flow from illogical constructs.  The tendency of law enforcement and courts to go easier on the woman has also been observed, for example, with Meredith kercher’s alleged killer who made eyes with the judge.

Personally, the foibles of men and the foibles of women are something to come to terms with, not any great problem but when they try to make out they’re not what they are – then that would be risible, were it not attended by dire consequences.

  1. Men are just as stupid they just do it a different way. They will fiddle and steal from their employer to fund an impressive lifestyle they don’t have, they will kill easier than women and they will put temselves in morephysical danger to impress.

Same problem just mens way of handling it is different from womens.

  2. Human nature, a wonderful thing.

  3. You can trust me with experience when I say that courts also look favourably on men based on little more than really nasty sexist silly preconceptions about rape, James. Reading through the case notes on Polanski I was disgusted to see them ask her all sorts of questions about her panties. Something which was utterly irrelevant and only feminists bothered to call that hummiliating crap out in the last few decades.

Women are very likely to do stupid things to be liked or for love itself. Just like men. But in diffferent ways. Men are just as crazy or daft, just in their own way.

The best way to combat feminism to my mind (and something I plan to do more often) is to highlight how men can speak out on wrongdoings and do share the opinion that equality in matters of reason and law is a good thing without all needing divisive political means to go about this. That there are just as many witches out there who will shaft women for the aforementioned. Just as many stupid women as stupid men. Just as many chauvinist women as chauvinist men. And as many female libertines as male.

As for ganster molls, I’ve always believed that this is the right term to apply to young muslim women who sport niqabs and rock up at terror rallies.

  4. As an aside that group mentality is natural and dates back billions of years. It can be for protection. To my mind British feminism came about as a result of that group mentality and which I’ve debated on my own blog.

Single women were flat out resented and hated after World War One which led them to get together for safety. They formed organisations to help single women get pensions and work protection. It was essential for their very survival in a world without men or prospect of marriage, of huge cultural shift and as a direct consequence of that brutal war. Which they were not responsible for instigating by the way! They did not request to wind up unmarried or alone. But just as millions died in the trenches. Millions back home were left facing a lonely hostile single future.

It was a good thing that they got together. But also small wonder then that only decades later those very organisations were easy pickings to channel into socialism or feminism.

Also – a lot of the cultural stuff you talk about and that affects society has come about as a result of ‘libertine’ attitudes more than feminism (to my mind). I also think the libertine aspect is why feminism is so damn confused on most of its core “issues”.

  6. It amazes me what some women will do for “love” – only it is not love, but fear of being on their own. I blame all those stupid “Stand by your Man ” – type songs, myself. There is no such thing as a “Feminazi”.

  7. There is no such thing as a “Feminazi”

    Really, Welshcakes? :)

  8. I’ve never met one! I know they exist in Rush Limbaugh’s mind but I suspect he is a very lonely person who resents woman unless they a) share his worldview or b) dance butt naked around poles.

  9. I’ve never met one!

That’s because you’ve been looking elsewhere, Alison. They’re everywhere.

  10. Where though? Serious question.

  11. Apart from say at ‘Feministing’ which I read occasionally. I don’t count them as feminazis though. Its just a point of view at the end of the day.
